Aqua-Spark and Norfund have become new cornerstone investors for Lake Harvest Group to produce Tilapia in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Uganda. The investment will take development a new step further.

Lake Harvest is one of the pioneers of sustainable aquaculture. The Fish Site informs, on January 12th 2022, that Lake Harvest secures a $7 million investment [1]. The investment is for developing countries to enable the growth of Lake Harvest’s operations.

Tilapia

Tilapia is a hardy, fast-growing fish that can live up to ten years and reach ten pounds in weight. Tilapia is the second most prolific species grown in aquaculture after carp and the most widely grown fish on earth. Tilapia is farmed in many countries. Consumer markets have significantly expanded throughout the 2000s. According to the National Fisheries Institute, tilapia is on the top ten list of the most consumed fish in the United States. Chances are, if you’ve eaten fish at a restaurant, you’ve eaten tilapia.[2]

Lake Harvest

Established in 1997, Lake Harvest is a long-time leader in sub-Saharan Africa, with operations in three countries and seven sales and distribution presence. With its distribution network and processing plant, as well as a locally embedded team with decades of experience, Lake Harvest is well-positioned for growth, according to Aqua-Spark. In addition, the farm is mission-aligned – adopting best practices that include education and training programmes for staff and the sale of byproducts, antibiotic-free operations, and genetic improvement.

Lake Harvest has an established set of values and principles which guide group companies in developing procedures, standards and processes to meet the organisation’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters. [1]
